Parent-Family Engagement
Parent-Family Engagement at WCE
Walnut Creek Elementary believes that parent and family engagement means the participation of parents/guardians in regular two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities.
- That families play an integral role in assisting their child's leaning
- That families are encouraged to be actively involved in their child's education at school
- That families are full partners in their child's education and included as appropriate in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child
- The carrying out of other activities as described in this plan
Walnut Creek Elementary is Reaching Out
WCE will take the following actions to promote and support parents/guardians as an important foundation of the school in order to strengthen the school and reach our school goals.
We Will:
- Conduct a curriculum night where families are given information about grade level curriculum that are placed at Henry County Schools
- Provide assistance to families as appropriate in English or primary home language on the school website and the weekly electronic information for families to understand the school's academic standards and assessments as well as ways parents can monitor their child's progress and work with educators to improve their child's academic achievement.
- Provide virtual training meetings, workshops, and materials in the Parent Resource Center to help families work with their child to improve the child's academic success.
- Educate teachers, pupil services personnel, principals and other staff, with the assistance of contributions of families; as well as how to reach out to communicate with and work with families as equal partners.
- Communicate with local daycare centers and feeder middle schools to offer transition for upcoming Kindergarten and 5th grade families
- Involve families in regularly scheduled training for teachers and other educators on strategies to improve communication with families and ideas to increase family engagement. Staff will also discuss best practices through phone calls, emails, flyers, and the weekly electronic information.
- Collect feedback from parents through comment cards at each family event and bi-annually in a survey.
- Provide other reasonable support for parent and family engagement activities or meetings as families may request
- Provide opportunities for family meet and greets, and conferences where teachers can share progress assessments results with families to help better understand their child's academic progress.
